Latitude Festival: Live Sessions & Backstage Interviews

LATITUDE FESTIVAL: LIVE SESSIONS & BACKSTAGE INTERVIEWS

In 2012 I was mentoring a year group of sound engineering students at Access to Music. I was also Singles Editor at Drowned in Sound, and DiS were media partners for that year’s Latitude festival – tasked with securing, filming and recording backstage interviews with headline acts. While in class, I got an email from Sean Adams, Editor of Drowned in Sound, telling me that the video production company he had planned to use were dropping out, and did I know anyone who could step in. So I stopped what we were doing in class, and got my students to write a one page pitch document about why Sean should pick us as his production team. It worked.

After calling in a few favours, raiding my loft for posters and making bunting out of cassette tapes, we arrived at the site and decorated our nondescript portakabin. My sound engineering students (the fantastic Tom Joy, Lauren Hichisson and Sam Thompson) were guided by the brilliant Ryan Hillier, while Luqman Heron and Ahmed Peerbux from CMedia did us a huge favour by filming the entire weekend. We recorded live sessions and interviews with Elbow, Metronomy, Yeasayer, dEUS, Josh T Pearson, Sharon Van Etten, The Antlers and Perfume Genius, and I got a (slightly terrifying) piano lesson from Chilly Gonzales. All content created is collated on Drowned in Sound here and SoundCloud here. Cabin photos by Ben Carpenter.
